Noxiously Sappy

You know, the good Lady really got it all wrong when she pegged me as the 'one that bears watching' in our little group. Yeah, I come from a place that would make little Miss Princess Priss shit herself and cry for her dear departed mummy, but you know what...?

I don't - in fact, none of us really does - have a thing on Quatre.

Heero's a stone cold killer, that's for sure, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to get on his bad side. If he even has one. I'm really not sure he'd spare the energy to bother dealing with something like a little insult. He just goes and does what needs to be done, and devotes the rest of his time to training that perfect body of his - hey, I'm not dead, you know! I can admire. Anyway, he's deadly, sure, but he's so dedicated to the big, glorious Peace that it almost hurts. There's no way in hell he'd do anything that might compromise that.

Wufei, now he's got a temper. He's got a short fuse and everyone who's ever had the pleasure of dealing with him knows it. But he's so damned controlled it just kills me. He takes all that righteous fury - or even mild indignation - and channels it into whatever he wants, and he gets so he's like some implacable force of nature. And unless something happens that just saps all the Justice or whatever out of the ESUN, he'll do anything he can to keep it running. I've spent some long stakeouts with him, and if you get him talking, you wouldn't believe the things this guy thinks about. I used to figure he was pretty one-dimensional, you know? Just all about the big J, and that's it. But he really does look at all angles of a thing before dealing with it. In fact, I think the only thing Une would ever have to worry about with him is the possibility that he'd get fed up with overlooking all the little, 'petty' crimes and go vigilante on her. Which really isn't something that would bother her all that much, unless I'm totally off the mark on her.

Trowa's honestly just a pretty good guy. He grew up rough, though in a totally different way than Heero or I did, but you'd never guess it just from looking at him. I suppose there're some things that would make him a possible breach point - he's damned good at pulling on those undercover roles of his and becoming them. But I've never once worried that he'd lose his focus, and neither has Une. He's really a pack animal, when you get down to it. And we're his pack.

Me, I'm not one for blind obedience, and I'm well aware that this ESUN peace-loving-government-thing isn't all it's cracked up to be. But I know what it was like before, and even the worst places now aren't as bad as things were under the Alliance. So I'll do my part to keep things clean, and I'll support my team whenever and however I can, and the good Lady can sit on it for all I care. In all honesty, I'm glad this Peace thing isn't perfect - if it was, I'd be heading for a bunker and getting ready to buckle down.

So when I'm woken up in the middle of the night by Quatre muttering to himself in his sleep, his face calm and empty and his fingers twitching like his hands are wrapped around the controls of a Mobile Suit or the stock of a gun, and I manage to catch a few words and realize what it is he's talking about...

...well, I'm glad that I know that even if he does snap, I'll already be well out of the blast radius.

I'll admit, though...it's made me hesitate a couple times, going into situations that I might not come back out of. Made me take a few less risks than I used to. Because I really don't want to be responsible for setting him off.
